Why Can’t We Turn It OFF?

I find myself sitting here and the TV is just on.  I’m not watching anything that I care about.  But for some reason I can’t get it turned off.  There is nothing I am interested in watching tonight.  It is just noise.  I recommended that we just turn it off and I was looked at like an alien.

In your house is it hard to turn off the TV when there really isn’t anything on?  Is it just because we need to be entertained all the time?  Or do we just not know what to do with ourselves?

Well I am leaving the remote and the TV with my husband and heading to read in my RETREAT.

What are some of your favorite shows?
How many hours is the TV on a day in your home?

I know what you mean, so many times the TV is on just for background noise. I like it turned OFF most of the time.

I think so often that how can we hear from God if there is noise always around us?

btw, I like your new blogger header.

My TV is rarely on. I honestly don’t even understand why I pay for cable. There are maybe 2 shows that I watch in the evening…if I even make it that far. I am usually curled up with a book or out in my yard working in my rose garden. TV is overrated and some of the shows that I have heard about, but have never seen, sound completely senseless to me.

  3. most of the time my TV is on cartoons for the little one. I hardly get to watch it. But since school started we haven’t watched much TV. When she’s gone at school, its off. I usually do my bible study homework and then pick up the house. When she gets home the cartoons are on. We go to bed now at 8:45 so we will try and squeeze in one of our shows. Then record the rest but most shows are reruns right now.
Our favorite shows are Glee, NCIS, NCIS LA, Flashpoint, Flash Forward, and can’t think of the others.

  4. I just recently turned off my home TV and internet service because all I did was sit in front of either the TV or my computer after work. It has caused me to become bored enough with nothing to do at home to actually go outside and do stuff. It’s working BTW.

My bro in law and I were just talking about families and children that are way to “plugged in”. With technology like it is now it has become to easy to not do anything with the family or friends, after all you did just text, IM, email or game with them just the other day. That is far from real time with real people. We are trying to fix that issue now by seriously limiting the daily dose of tech.

My addiction is the Internet. I want to know everything, about everyone, everywhere in the world.

My guess is I spend 6 hours a day on doing stuff (walks, socializing, chores) and 10 hours between the Internet, TV and books. It is good to be retired. :)

Having a DVR means I can tape shows and watching them anytime I want. I can also fast-forward through the uninteresting parts. The only thing I watch “live” is sports.

Favorite TV Shows, in no particular order:

    House
    Bones
    Fringe
    PBS Mystery’s

CSI (Las Vegas) and the original Law & Order now both of the air. Arrrggh!

Since I don’t have a TV, I dont really just sit in front of it… BUT I do watch movies a lot (more than I should) and I stream some shows on the internet. I think if I had cable I would just sit and watch it more than I should.

Sorry looking over my comment I need to correct myself. CSI Las Vegas isn’t going off the air. Guess I am not paying that much attention to the TV schedule.

Unfortunately, my husband and I love tv.. especially my husband.. it is ALWAYS on.. He’s a sports fanatic, so there’s always football or basketball on saturday and sundays. During the week we have our own shows we watch.. he likes the office, entourage, bored to death… I tend to enjoy the cooking reality shows, and also some of those over dramatized shows.. Sometimes i find it soo enjoyable (especially after a busy and stressful week) to just unwind in front of the tv… not thinking or worrying about anything.. just mindlessly watching tv.. weird, i know.. but when you think about it, sometimes it’s just nice not to think :)
