I was thinking.
I was wondering.
Why do you Serve? I’m not talking Tennis or Volleyball.
Why do you serve at the Shelter, Mission, Clinic, School, Church?
Do you serve because it is your gifting? The Lord put it in your heart to read to 2nd graders, serve soup, organize the thrift store, greet people at church or whatever way it is that you serve.
Is it All for God? For His Kingdom? Because you Love your Neighbor, Friend, Church?
Or Do You Serve to say….
I do This….
I do That….
I have this Planned…..
What are your motives?
Do you serve because you want to or because you have to?
To Who’s Glory goes the benefits of your service?
YOURS
or
GODS
I will explain why I ask on Wednesday.

I serve because Christ served.
Even when I don’t feel like serving.
Guess that pretty much sums it up for me.
I serve out of love for God, and because He wired me this way. Or, gifted me this way…
I’m actually in the process of learning to say NO, or at least “Let me think about it” when people ask me to serve in certain areas. Because I have realized (er, a good friend helped me see) I need to protect my time and be sure I am also being filled – lest I serve on emptiness and then I get worn out and bitter.
I serve because I love God and I want to do something for Him. I don’t want to show up at Heaven’s gates saying that I did nothing while here on earth.
I hope He gets the glory out of it. If I get glory here on earth, I’m losing out on heavenly rewards. Because my love language is words of affirmation, I have to be really careful that I don’t do things just to hear people speak words of commendation to me. I’m just being honest.
The greatest word of commendation ever would be from the Lord. I want Him to say “Well done good and faithful servant” to me. That is my highest goal.
I pray for the right motives daily. It´s sometimes a battle to not do it for the wrong reasons. Oh, I want to be used by the Lord!
