Julie at Abbilyeverafter organized the Big Secret Ornament Swap.

I had great fun picking ornaments for Mel at A Box of Chocolates

I found out that my name had been given to TWADDLE everyday rubbish.  I have had such a blast reading her blog.  She is in England raising four fine boys.  She has a great sense of humor and loves her chickens.

Today I received my ornaments from across the Pond.  I have never understood why they call it that.

This has been great fun….I am hoping that Julie contacts all of us participants next year.  Even if she doesn’t I have become a reader of her blog and I will hopefully see her posting regarding the ornament swap.  Thank You Julie!!

I never considered this a Tradition  but my son informed me that since we do it every year it is.  My daughter has already started  to ask when I am going to the grocery store to get the ingredients.  So I will claim it as the Trotter Family Christmas Eve Tradition.

Every year for Christmas Eve’s dinner I make homemade Cioppino.  This is a hearty seafood stew.  I have a standing order for the fresh clams, scallops, shrimp, crab meat and white fish.  I also purchase homemade crusty super sourdough rolls.   It simmers for a couple hours and it is usually wonderful.

After dinner we get to open one present.  One that us as the parents get to pick out for them.  When the kids believed in Santa they use to leave out pretzels for Santa and carrots for the reindeer.  Ryan was sure Santa was tired of cookies.

christmas-2008-023

Saturday a group of volunteers went up to the Northern California Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery.  They held a ceremony and laid hand-made wreaths on the headstones.

christmas-2008-025

This tradition was started in 1992 by Morrill Worcester of the Worcester Wreath Company of Maine.  They donate and provide the trucking for 5,000 wreaths to be laid on the headstones at Arlington National Cemetery.  This tradition is now streching across the nation.

I admit to sheding a tear or two.  It is beautiful.  My heart goes out to the troops, the family of the troops.  To the troops that are deployed and the ones that are home.  The active duty, the inactive duty and the retired.  I thank each and everyone of you for all you have done for our country.

Rest easy, sleep well my brothers.
Know the line has held, your job is done.
Rest easy, sleep well.
Others have taken up where you fell, the line has held.
Peace, peace, and farewell…
